$pi$$sup 0$-MESON PRODUCTION IN 8.4 Gev/C $pi$$sup -$-XENON NUCLEUS COLLISION

Inelastic interactions of 8.4-Bev/c pi /sup -/ mesons with Xe nuclei are studied in a Xe bubble chamber. The energy spectrum and the angular distribution of secondary photons are measured. The possibility is shown of correlating photon pairs with individual pi /sup 0/ mesons. The energy spectrum of pi /sup 0/ mesons consists of a low energy part up to 0.6 Bev and a high energy tail. The mean transverse momentum is (0.36 plus or minus 0.04) Bev/c. (auth)
