RADIATION DETECTORS USING SEMICONDUCTOR JUNCTIONS

A semiconductor-junction-type radiation detector, based on the principle that when radiation penetrates into the semiconductor positive holes and electrons are produced, is described, and the advantages and disadvantages are discussed. The methods of construction of the surface-barrier type and p-n diffusion-type semiconductor detectors are described. The applications of semiconductors as penciltype survey meters and neutron counters are discussed. (OID)
