SEMICONDUCTOR DETECTORS FOR NUCLEAR RADIATION (in German)

Journal Article · · Physica Status Solidi (East Germany) Divided into Phys. Status Solidi A and Phys. Status Solidi B

The design, theory, and operation of semiconductor detectors are discussed. There are two types of semiconductor detectors: with and without barrier layers. The starting material, construction, space-charge zone, lifetime of the charge carrier, efficiency as radiation detector, density of space-charge zone, capacity of space-charge zone, ionization energy, barrier current, impulses given off, and energy and time resolution of the silicon barrier layer detector are described. The preparation of surface-barrier, phosphor-diffusion, and lithium-drift detectors and those with p-n transitions produced by ion bombardment is discussed. Uses in energy spectroscopy of heavy ions and alpha particles at low energies, neutron spectroscopy, coincidence measurem ents, special arrangements, and integral measurements are described.
