CONSTITUTION DIAGRAM OF Hf-Re ALLOY (in Russian)

Microstructure, microhardness, and x-ray diffraction analyses were made, and the constitution diagram for Hf-Re, demonstrating three metallic compounds, was constructed. The solubility of Re in alpha Hf is less than 3 wt.% at 1250 deg C (with 3 wt.% Hf it is a two-phase alloy). Additions of Re to Hf partially stabilize the BETA phase and reduce the temperature of polymorphous transformation to 1250 deg C. A second intermetallic compound, HfRe/sub 2/, with a structure resembling the MgZn/sub 2/ structure, is formed at 2850 deg C. The third compound formed at 2280 deg C resembles Zr/sub 2/Re in structure. The microhardness of Hf/sub 3/Re/sub 2/ is 1000 kg/mm/sub 2/. (R.V.J.)
