THE PHASE DIAGRAM OF THE Zr - Re SYSTEM (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Atomnaya Energ.
OSTI ID:4226742
The Zr - Re phase diagram was studied by x-ray diffraction and microscopic methods and by determining the melting point, hardness, and microhardness. Solid solutions of Re in alpha zirconium at 800 deg contain about 0.5 wt.% Re, increasing to 2 to 3 wt.% at the eutectoid transformation temperature. At 1600 deg C 14.68 wt% Re is dissolved in beta - Zr, increasing to 8 wi.% Re at 550 to 600 deg C the eutectoid transformation point. The beta phase becomes stable in alloys containing more than 4 wt.% Re. The eutectic composition is reached at 1600 deg C and 25 wt.% Re. The presence of metastable omega phase is found in zirconium reach alloys. The solubility of zircouium in rhenium is less tham 2 wt.% at 2500 deg C. Three chemical compositions are formed by peritectic reactions: at 2500 deg C Zr/sub 5/Re/sub 24/ with a face-center cubic lattice ( alpha = 9.6 to 9.7 kX) and microhardness of about 1000 kg/mm/sup 2/; at 2450 deg C ZrRe/sub 2/ with a close-packed hexogonal lattice (a = 5.21 to 5.25A; C = 8.5 to 8.56 and, C/a = 1.63) and microhardness of 1200 kg/mm/sup 2/; at 1900 deg C Zr/sub 2/Re with a sigma phase tetragonal lattice (a = 10.12 A; C = 5.42 A; c/a = 0.535) and microhardness of 700 to 800 kg/mm/sup 2/.
