THE SPECTRA OF DIVALENT RARE EARTH IONS IN CRYSTALS OF ALKALINE EARTH FLUORIDES. II. EUROPIUM AND YTTRIUM

Journal Article · · Opt. Spectry. (USSR) (English Transl.)
OSTI ID:4770914
The absorption and luminescence spectra of divalent ions of europium and ytterbium introduced into monocrystals of the fluorides of Ca, Sr, and Ba were investigated at 293, 77, and 4.2 deg K. It was established that there is a regular shift of the absorption spectra with change in host cation. The spectra were considered to be manifestations of electron transitions between terms of the 4f/sup k/ configuration and terms of mixed configurations, particularly 4f/sup h- 1/5d and 4f/sup k-1/6s.
