Nature of the fluorescence of divalent europium fluorides (in French)

Journal Article · · Mater. Res. Bull.; (United States)
The levels of the /sup 6/P/sub 7/2/(4f/sup 7/) and 4f/sup 6/5d/sup 1/ states of europium (+II) have been determined from fluorescence spectra in a series of fluorides M/sub x/B/sub y/F/sub z/ (M = alkaline-earth element, B = Li, Be, Mg, Y, Si). As in BaY/sub 2/F/sub 8/, SrSiF/sub 6/ and BaSiF/sub 6/, the /sup 6/P/sub 7/2/ level lies even at room temperature far below the 4f/sup 6/5d/sup 1/ band, only the f ..-->.. f emission is observed. The influence of the choice of the alkaline-earth and the B cations and of the coordination of europium on the relative positions of the energy levels is discussed.
