THE SPECTRA OF TRIVALENT CERIUM IONS IN ALKALINE-EARTH FLUORIDE CRYSTALS

Journal Article · · Opt. Spectry. (USSR) (English Transl.)
OSTI ID:4682216
The absorption and luminescence spectra of MeF/sub 2/-Ce single crystals (Me =Ca, Sr, Ba) were measured at 4.2, 77, and 300 deg K in the region of the allowed 4f-5d transitions of the Ce/sup 3+/ ion. These spectra indicated the existence of vibrational sequences of narrow, bands and lines; mirror symmetry was observed in the long-wavelength absorption band structure and in two luminescence bands assigned to transitions from the lowest d state to the /sup 2/ F/sub 3/2/, (ground state) and /sup 2/F/sub 7/2/, states. The forbidden transitions between these levels were observed in infrared absorption spectra. (auth)
