Cæsium-134 in Man in Scandinavia

After the Windscale accident of October 1957 a number of samples of milk, grass, and soil were taken from the surrounding district and analyzed by gamma -spectrometry for I131, Co137, and Ba137. Results show that the patterns of deposition of these two isotopes were very similar. The ratio of activities of I131 to Cs131 worked back to the time of the accident was close to 50 : 1. The activity of Co134 released in the accident was known to be less than 5% of the activity Of Cs131. Analysis of the data led to the conclusion that Cs131 recently found in inhabitants of Lapland cannot be attributed to the Windscale accident.
