INVESTIGATION OF THE 800 kev PEAK IN THE GAMMA SPECTRUM OF SWEDISH LAPLANDERS

Whole-body counting of 12 Swedish Laplanders in 1961 showed high levels of Cs/sup 137/. The high Cs/sup 137/ content is attributed to the consumption of reindeer meat by Laplanders. The high Cs/sup 137/ uptake by reindeer is related to the special grazing habits of this animal. The ratio of atmospheric Cs/sup 134/ to Cs/sup 137/ and the contribution of nuclear accidents and fallout from nuclear explosions to atmospheric Cs/sup 134//Cs/sup 137/ activities are discussed.
