DECAY OF THE NUCLEUS C$sup 12$ CAUSED BY 22 TO 24 Mev /cap alpha/ PARTICLES

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
The decay of the C/sup 12/ nucleus into three alpha particles under the action of 22- to 24-Mev alpha particles is studied to determine the reaction mechanisms. Spatial and energy distributions of the decay products, as well as the excitation energies of the possible intermediate nuclei C/sup 12/ and Be/sup 8/ are given. It is established that the dominating reaction mechanlsm is the decay of the nucleus O/sup 16/ into four alpha particles, with a resonance interaction of alpha particles in the final state. (auth)
