GONADAL EXPOSURE DOSE IN X-RAY EXAMINATION OF THE HIP JOINT OF INFANTS

Journal Article · · Proc. Inst. Nucl. Paediat. Res. (Japan)
OSTI ID:4736020
In x-ray screen photography of the hip joint of infants, the average dose received by the gonads was inferred to be about 160 mr in boys and 100 mr in girls. The gonadal dose was estimated to be 50 mr in boys and 25 mr in girls in normal radiography of the hip joint. However, when the gonads were protected from x rays, the gonadal dose was reduced to about 1/10 in boys, and 1/5 in girls. The results were supported by phantom measurements. (Abstr.
