$sup 90$Sr CONTENT OF INLAND WATERS IN JAPAN (in Japanese)

The investigation was carried out to clarify the distribution and behavior of Sr/sup 90/ in inland waters. Thirty-seven samples were taken from various points in Japan. Sr/sup 90/ in water is collected with cation exchange resin. Eluted by passing hydrochioric acid, it is separated is carbonate in the presence of strontium carrier. Sr/sup 90/ activity is estimated by counting BETA -activity of Y/sup 90/ present in equilibrium with it. It is concluded that (a) the concentration of Sr/sup 90/ in inland water increases in the order of ground water (0.00 C/1) river water (0.02 to 0.22 C/l) and lake water (0.09 to 0.63 C/l), (b) the Sr/sup 90/ concentration in water has no connection with stable strontium and calcium concentrations in water, and (c) the annual total amount of outflow of Sr/sup 90/ through the rivers to the ocean is approximately equivalent to 0.5 to 1% of the total cumulative amount of Sr/sup 90/ in June 1960, and to 3 to 7% of its annual deposition during the period 1959 to 1960 in Japan.
