Studies were uadertaken to clarify the monthly depositions and vertical distributions of /sup 90/Sr in soils and runoff of /sup 90/Sr by river to sea. In Osaka Prefecture, monthly depositions of /sup 90/Sr were determined during 1963 to 1970. From 1958 to 1968, annual variations of /sup 90/Sr concentration in the waters of the Yodogawa and Yamatogawa Rivers were shown, and the maximum value (1.5 mu mu c/l) of /sup 90/Sr concentrations in waters was found in 1963. From 1963 to 1968, 74 to 79% of total /sup 90/Sr in undisturbed soils was included in depth 0 to 6 cm. /sup 90/Sr concentration in river water is given by C = 0.5 R + 0.01 D, where C is /sup 90/Sr concentration ( mu mu c/l) in river water, R is the amount of /sup 90/Sr deposition (mCi/km/sup 2/) during three months before sampling of water, and D is that of cumulative grouad deposit (mCi/ km/sup 2/) of /sup 90/Sr before sampling of water.
