A device is designed for unloading damaged fuel elements, sheaths, or control rods from vertical channels in a reactor core. The device comprises a body with means at its upper end for coupling to a support and at its lower end at least three vertical fingers for lifting a damaged element. The fingers have recesses with locking balls adapted to wedge between the element and the fingers to effect lifting of the element. (D.L.C.)
