The Radiological Released Cerebral Edema and its Prevention. Part I. Experimental Animal Investigations (in German)

Journal Article · · RoeFo - Fortschritte auf dem Gebiete der Roentgenstrahlen und der bildgebenden Verfahren

The initiation and course of radioinduced cerebral changes was investigated in experimental animals by means of the gamma encephalogram. The findings were interpreted as being due to damage to blood vessel walls with consecutive disturbance of the blood-brain barrier. A dose and effect relation shows a regular behavior. The effect of cerebral irradiation in rabbits with 1500 r could be modifled by the use of Aescin, in the form of the commercial preparation Reparil. This resulted in the prevention or reduction of cerebral edema.
