The following data were obtained in rats during the first 24 hours after the intraperitoneal injection of Sr/sup 85-89/: (a) the sex did not influence the uptake and turnover of the radioisotope in the blood; (b) a relationship was demonstrated between the weight (age) of the animals and the proportion of Sr found in the blood stream from the first hours of treatment, i.e., a smaller proportion of the injected dose of Sr was found in the blood of young animals than in that of older animals. Furthermore, young animals excrete Sr more rapidly during the first 4 to 5 hours but accumulate a greater amount in the bone tissue in a shorter time. (auth)
