STUDIES ON THE MECHANISM OF RADIATION PROTECTION BY PARABIOSIS

A study is described that was made to determine if protection of rats from a lethal dose of radiation by parabiosis is related to the transplantation of immunologically conditioned cells from the nonirradiated to the irradiated member of the pair. The results fail to answer the question because it appears that such cells are sometimes transferred between inbred animals of the same sex, regardless of radiation. This in itself is an interesting and important finding. (auth)
