>The design of a sheathed fuel element, which is especially applicable for use in fast reactors, is patented. Each fuel section consists of a sheath filled with fuel only to 50 to 90% of the available fuel volume. The fuel sections are arranged end to end in an outer sheath. which has flattened sides to come in direct contact with the inner sheaths. The spaces where the sheaths are not in direct contact are filled with a thermally bonding material. The outer sheaths have radially projecting longitudinal fins extending over the length of the element. These fins engage the fins of adjacent elements forming a fuel element assembly chargeable into a reactor as a single unit and composed of several fuel elements in spaced parallel relationship.
