The design of a fuel element assembly consisting of a cylindrical graphite sleeve, which supports a sheathed fuel element, is patented. The sheath of the cylindrical fuel element has helical heat-transfer fins and longitudinal coolant separator fins extending beyond the helical fins. The graphite sleeve has grooves on its internal surface. which engage the longitudinal fins on the sheath, preventing relative rotation of the sleeve and the sheath. (M.P.G.)
