During the second startup phase of the FRJ-1 (MERLIN) at a power up to 100 kw the radiation field due to gamma radiation as well as fast and thermal neutrons in the reactor was measured. Geiger-Mueller tubes, ionization chambers, and BF/sub 3/ proportional counters were used as radiation detectors. At the periphery of the reactor tube a radiation level of about 40 mrem/hr was found.
