Activity Measurement in the Waste Air System and Primary Cooling Circuit of the Reactor FRJ-1 (Merlin) at 100 kw; AKTIVITATSMESSUNGEN IM ABLUFTSYSTEM UND PRIMARKUHLKREIS DES REAKTORS FRJ-1 (MERLIN) BEI 100 kW

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4711416

The radioactivity in the primary cooling circuit and waste-air system of the MERLIN Reactor (FRJ-1) was investigated in the scope of the second phase of the startup program at a reactor power of 100 kw. In the waste-air filter no collection of radioactive nuclides was observed. The detection of N/sup 16/ in the air directly over the reactor water surface could not be made. The concentration of Ar/sup 41/ in the drainage tube was determined to be 1 x 10/sup - 3/ mu c/cm/sup 3/. In the reactor water the radioisotopes Na/sup 26/, Ar/sup 41/ , Kr/sup 87/, Kr/sup 88/, I/sup 134/, and I/sup 135/ were identified. The total ac tivity of the water 2 hours after shut-down of the reactor was hewater. Chemical analysis gave a value of 9.4 ppm for the SiO/sub 2/ content of the water. The conductivity amounted to an average of 2.5 mu sec/cm. (tr-auth)
