Progress is reported on studies of radiation effects and treatment of patients with a variety of mailgnant disorders, Emphasis was placed on the response of patients to homologous bone marrow injections after exposure to single whole-body radiation doses of 50 or 100 r. Results are included from complementary studies in laboratory animals. Data are presented on the effects of whole-body irradiation on bone marrow lipids in rats, dogs, swine, and monkeys; the radiosensitivity of the primate, Tamarinus nigricollis; the effects of injected rare earth chelates on liver; the tissue distribution of radioisotopes after intralymphatic injection; a tracer estimation of BETA dose to the human intestine from internally deposited radioisotopes; and an evaluation of radioisotopes for use in bone marrow scanning.
