PHOTOMETRIC STUDY OF THE INTERACTION OF URANIUM(IV) WITH ARSENAZO III (in Russian)

The interaction of uranium(IV) with arsenazo III in HCl solutions was studied by a photometric method. It is shown that U(IV) reacts with arsenazo III forming two series of complexes depending on the HCl concentration. The complexes are quite different in their optical characteristics. In about 0.1M HCl solutions complexes with the U/arsenazo III ratio equal to 1: 1 and 1: 2, and in 6 to 8M HCl solutions complexes with the U/arsenazo III ratio equal to 1: 1, 1:2, and 1:3 are formed. The photometric determination of U(IV) with arsenazo III is the most sensitive (the molar extinction coefficient at 665 m is 127000) when the HCl concentration is 6 to 8M, and the amount of arsenazo III is not less than 3 times as much as the amount of U present.
