THE PROPERTIES OF CaSO$sub 4$: Mn THERMOLUMINESCENCE DOSIMETERS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4694746
The properties of the radiothermoluminescence of CaSO/sub 4/: Mn, used for dosimetry of gamma and roentgen radiation, were investigated. The light yield of the luminophor was determined to 1.5% for 1 Mev gamma radiation. The dependence of the thermoluminescence light sum on the exposure, the exposure rate, and the exposure time can qualitatively be described by the first order process model, modified by a broad energy distribution of the electron trap depths. Some applications are discussed. The cheapness of the dosimeters, the convenient read-out, and the broad range of measurable exposures suggest that CaSO/sub 4/: Mn can be a valuable complement to other dosimetry systems. (auth)
