ROLE OF PHOSPHORUS IN GROWTH OF BERYLLIA SINGLE CRYSTALS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4691355
The growth of beryllia single crystals from lithium molybdate flux has been described previously. With lithium phosphate added to the flux in amounts up to several percent, unique crystal habit modifications occur, the extent of modification depending upon temperature, flux composition, and phosphate concentration. Also, the temperature for crystal nucleation is slightly lowered, and generation of inclusions, otherwise severe, is markedly supressed. Phosphorus is not introduced into the crystal from the flux in significant amounts. (auth)
