ROLE OF Si, Al, AND OTHER IMPURITIES IN BeO CRYSTAL GROWTH

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4693248
A number of impurities were considered and examined for their potential influence on the growth of BeO single crystals from molten lithium molybdate flux. The impurities considered were Mg, Ca, Al, Si, Mn, Zn, Cr, Fe, As, Sb, Te, Se, S, and F. Of these, only Al and Si were found to cause observable modifications in crystal habit and inclusion formation. It was concluded that analytical reagent grade MoO/sub 3/ and Li/sub 2/MoO/sub 4/, and nominally pure BeO, are adequately pure for the growth of BeO single crystals. (auth)
