A method of preparing deuterium-enriched H by isotope exchange between H and liquid NR/sub 3/ is patented. A catalyst of cesium amide and/or rubidium amide is used in solution in the liquid NH/sup 3/. The catalyst may also contain potassium amide. The catalysts have a high solubility in liquid NH/sub 3/ and make it possible to conduct thc reactions in a temperature range of -70 to +70 deg C under the natural pressure of the liquid NH/sub 3/. The concentration of the catalyst should be from 0.05 to 10% by weight of the NH/sub 3/. (M.P.G.)
