A process for enriching ammonla in deuterium by single temperature isotopic ammonia-hydrogen exchange is described. The exchange takes place between liquid ammonia and hydrogen containing deuterium in the presence of a catalyst such as potassium amide, cesium amide, or rubidium amide, which is dissolved in the liquid ammonia. The catalyst circulates in a cycle to and from the reaction vessel, wherein, in order to reduce the concentration of deuterium recycled with the catalyst from a point of the cycle that is rich in deuterium to a point of the cycle that is pure in deuterium, at least one catalyst recycling loop is associated with the reaction vessel. In this loop the catalyst solution leaving the reactor is either pantially evaporated and subjected to isotopic exchange with deuterium-poor ammonia synthesis gas, or completely evaporated. The resulting catalyst is then reinjected into the ammonla fed to the reactor. (M.C.G.)
