Interaction of a 29-Mev He$sup 3$ Particle Beam with a Cl$sub 4$C Vapor Target; INTERACCIONES DE He$sup 3$ DE 29 Mev EN UN BLANCO DE Cl$sub 4$C

A CCl/sub 4/ vapor target was bombarded with 29-Mev He/sup 3/ particles. Differential cross sections for the elastic scattering and for the C/sup 12/(He/ sup 3/, alpha )C/sup 11/ pick-up reaction were obtained using photographic emulsion techniques. Angular distributions for the two processes were analyzed by the diffraction and optical model theories and by the Bulter method, respectively. The excitation energy of the first level of C/sup 12/ proved to be 4.33 plus or minus 0.25 Mev from the scattering. The first level of the residual C/sup 11/ nucleus was established to be 1.94 plus or minus 0.30 Mev from the pick-up reaction. (D.C.W.)
