A method for promptly detecting and isolating a breached fluid-coolant pressure circuit in a reactor is patented. A device sensitive to the flow velocity of the fluid coolant is provided in each pressure circuit. An indication of abnormally high velocity automatically initiates a mechanism to close the inlet and outiet valves in the circuit and at the same time makes the mechanisms in the other pressure circuits inoperative. The reactor could also be shut down at the same time. (M.P.G.)
