IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO NUCLEAR REACTOR COOLANT SYSTEMS
A fluid-coolant system for a reactor core contained in a pressure vessel is patented. The coolant circulates around a closed circuit with a heat exchanger and the core in series. The coolant is a mixture of a carrier gas and fine solid particles, the concentration of which in the gas can be varied by passing the coolant through a bypass circuit. The bypass circuit contains a means for separating the coolant into heavy and light phases and selectively returning the heavy or light phase to the coolant circuit to increase or decrease the concentration of solid particles in it. A control system, responsive to coolant temperatures at the inlet and outlet of the pressure vessel, automatically varies the concentration of particles in the coolant to maintain constant coolant temperatures at the inlet and outlet.
