IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO REMOTE OPERATING TOOLS
An improved long-arm reacher or manipulator especially suitable for operating through a wall is patented. The reacher consists of an arm with a detachably mounted head on one end, an actuating member mounted at the other end, and a connecting mechanism to enable the actuating member to operate the engaging jaws on the head. A releasable coupling operatively couples the rod with the head and can be controlled from a point remote from the head. The detachable head makes it possible to use heads of different sizes or types. The head may be placed on the arm after the arm has been passed through the wall, making it possible to have only a small opening in the wall. The designs of the releasable head coupling and connecting mechanism are described. (M.P.G.)
