Investigations established that the employment of unithiole in Po/sup 210/ affection of animals increases the life expectation and retards the development of renal function disorders at the early periods of radiation sickness. However, under the influence of unithiole the more prolonged accumulation of the radioactive substance in the kidneys leads to a severer affection of the latter with transition into nephrosclerosis. In experiments staged on intact animals the use of unithiole during the first 4--5 days causes an inhibition of diuresis and only in the subsequent days-polyuria. The changes are associated with the biphasic action of unithiole on the acid-base metabolism and function of the kidneys (renal blood circulation, glomerular filtration, canalicular reabsorption).
