Upon morphological investigation of organs of 24 albino rats subjected to a single Po/sup 210/ administration (subcutaneously into the hip 0.005 and 0.0025 mC/kg) 282--590 days later tumors were found in the soft tissues of the hip, kidneys, perirenal fatty cellular tissue, and thyroid gland. Microscopic investigation disclosed that the tumors were cancers, sarcomas with metastases into the lung, heart, mesenteric lymph node, omentum, and adrenal gland. Histoautoradiograms confirmed the development of tumors from the tissues of organs where Po/sup 210/ is retained protractedly, irrespective of its quantity. (auth)
