Chemical protection by AET, MEA, D-2-ABT, APMT, serotonin, and a combination of AET and serotonin of the alimentary tracts of mice against 900, 1500, 2000, and 2500 r, and the hematopoietic system after 1500 r has been studied. AET and MEA offered the best intestinal protection, AET being superior to MEA at ali dose levels. Doubling the optimal intraperitoneal dose of AET and MEA by oral administration failed to increase the degree of intestinal protection. Finally, combined treatment with AET and serotonin, while providing better protection to the bone marrow than either alone, did not increase intestinal protection beyond that of AET alone.
