EFFECT OF 2-$beta$-AMINOETHYLISOTHIOUREA (AET) AND OF 5-HYDROXYTRYPTAMINE (SEROTONINE) ON THE SMALL INTESTINE AND THE HEMATOPOIETIC SYSTEM OF THE IRRADIATED MOUSE (in French)

The results are reported from studies made to determine if the survival of mice exposed to a combined AETserotonlne treatmert is higher than that of mice treated only by one of these two products and to confirm that the combined treatment offers, with respect to AET alone, a better protection to the hematopoietic system without improving the protection to the small intestine. Male mice, 3 months old, were exposed to 900, 1350, 1800, and 2250 r. Injections of the AET and serotonine were made before the irradiation. It was shown that combined treatment with AET and serotonine does not increase the intestinal protection of the mice exposed to 1350 r over that of mice protected with AET alone. But the combined treatment does give a better protection to the bone marrow and spleen. (J.S.R.)
