A supporting structure to reduce vibrations in clusters of fuel rods is patented. The cluster consists of a plurality of closely spaced parallel fuel rods in a tubular housing. The supporting structure of openwork construction is fabricated from strip material with transverse troughs at intervals. The strips are assembled with the troughs coming together to form spaced openings for the ends of the fuel rods. The strip material between the troughs is joined to form webs of double thickness and secured by localized welding remote from the fuel- rod openings. (M.P.G.)
