A supporting structure to restrain bowing in clusters of fuel rods is patented. The cluster consists of a plurality of closely spaced parallel fuel rods in a tubular housing. Bowing is restrained by an openwork structure of thinwalled stainless steel tubular members, which encircle the fuel rods with clearance over an intermediate length of the rods and are interconnected by webs. The supporting-structure members are edge-on to coolant flow through the fuel-rod housing. (M.P.G.)
