IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO HEAT TRANSFER ARRANGEMENTS
A heat-transfer arrangement especially applicable to reactor-fuel- element cans is patented. One object of the invention is to provide a reduced impedance to coolant flow for given heat-exchange characteristics. The heattransfer arrangement or fuel-element can has longitudinal splitters radiating from the surface to define separate passages for the flow of cooling fluid. Heat- exchange fins also radiate from the can between the splitters, do not extend radially as far as the splitters, and are inclined to the direction of coolant flow. Cylindrical partition members extend longitudinally in the passage at the tips of the heat-exchange fins. Baffle members extend transversely as far out as the splitters and are inclined to coolant flow in an opposite manner from that of the fins. Fluid can pass between zones and passages defined by the splitters, partition members, and baffles. (M.P.G.)
