A finned fuel element is designed with means for improving the heat exchange between the fins and the coolant. The means comprises deflection surfaces symmetrically arranged at the periphery of the transverse fins and inclined to the longitudinal axis of the element. Thus, the coolant is led transversely irto the circular channels delimited by the fins. Several embodimerts of the fuel element are described. (D.L.C.)
