A corrosion-resistant Pu-base alloy is patented. The alloy consists of 0.1 to 3%, by weight, of Ca, 0.1 to 2% of Zr, Nb, V, or Ti, and the remainder Be, including unavoidable impurities. The preferred proportion of Ca is 1%, and that of Zr, Nb, V, or Ti is 0.5%. The alloy has high neutron transparency and greater strength than Be-- Ca alloys. The ternary alloy can be made by conventional powder metallurgical techniques or by consumable-electrode arc melting followed by direct fabrication. (M.P.G.)
