Improvements in ultrasonic testing methods of welds, specially in the presence of austenitic steel cladding

Conference ·
OSTI ID:4397747
From 2nd international congress for pressure vessel and piping technology; San Antonio, Texas, USA (1 Oct 1973). See CONF-731003-P2. In an attempt to overcome problems related to the ultrasonic testing of stainless steel clad components, studies were carried out at Saclay to develop a new method known as the Constant Time'' ultrasonic method. This method and ultrasonic transducer technology are discussed. Tests of the method and equipment were performed on T-welds in the Phenik reactor cover-plate and on thlck plates clad with a stainless steel weld overlay. The results of these tests and the effects of transducer parameters on the results are described. (LCL)
