Development of nuclear jobs manufacture in Walchandnagar Industries Ltd., Walchandnagar

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4393331
A brief account of the technical and organizational challenge that industries engaged in the manufacture of conventional equipment have to encounter in the manufacture of sophisticated equipment required for nuclear industry is given. The Walchandnagar Industries in Poona, India, have successfully overcome the problems, and starting from jobs like thermal shield plates, even sophisticated jobs like fabricating the dump tank and fuelling machine head required for the Rajasthan Atomic Power Project Unit - 2, etc. have been satisfactorily completed. The short arc process using a modified mixture of gases has been developed for welding 1 1/2'' thick 304 L stainless steel to the fuelling machine head. Certain processes like''solution annealing'' have been eliminated. It is suggested that coastal regions are best suited for the fabrication of nuclear equipment, in as much as transportation problems will be minimized. (INIS)
