Manufacturing problems in calandria

Problems encountered during the manufacture of the calandria, the main reactor vessel in CANDU resctcrs, are presented. The main requirements in particular to calandria assembly are reported and special care has been taken to maintain clean conditions throughout the fabrication process. two calandrias have been fabricated in Canada and they are installed at the Douglas Point Generating Station and at the Rajasthan Atomic Power Ststion, Unit-1 respectively. The third calandria for Rajasthan Atomic Power Project Unit-2 is being fabricated in India and stages of faarication which are different from the earlier ones are described. Highlights of special fabrication requirements which the Indian Industry is called upon to meet are summarized. (INIS)
