Radiation-protective action and possible mechanisms of action of some potential radiation-protective agents (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Biol. Nauki, v. 113, no. 5, pp. 50-53

Some aminoalkylthiosulfuric acids are potential radiation protection agents. Their radiation-protection action depends on the degree of decrease in the oxidation-reduction potential in the tissue of the animal under the influence of these compounds. Data were obtained on the effect of the potential radiation protectants on the biogenic amine (serotonin, histamine), loosely bound phospholipid, and lipid oxidation product contents of tissue. The mechanism of action of the radiation protectants studied is considered to include the''formation of a biochemical background of radiation resistance of the organism.'' (tr-auth)
