The citrate, chloride, or nitrate of eight lanthanide elements (/sup 140/ La, /sup 141/Ce, /sup 153/Sm, /sup 153/Gd, /sup 160/Tb, /sup 169/Yb, / sup 170/ Tm, and /sup 177/Lu) were injected intravenously into rats with Yoshida sarcoma. At various times after injection the rats were killed and then the tumors and main organs were excised. The ratio of the uptake of each element into l gm of the tissue to each total administrative dosage was calculated. The uptake ratio of the tumor to other organs per unit of weight were also calculated. The uptake rate of /sup 170/Tm-citrate into the tumor 24 hrs after intravenous injection was 1.34%/g and that of /sup 169/Yb-chloride was 1.07%/g. These values were similar to 1.l4%/g of /sup 67/Ga-citrate. In the ratio of the tumor to the muscle, the tumor to the blood, and tumor to the liver, these values for /sup 170/Tm and /sup 169/Yb compounds were greater than that of /sup 67/Ga. In t he ratio of the tumor to the kidney, there was no significant difference between /sup 170/Tm and / sup 169/Yb compounds and /sup 67/Ga. In the ratio of th e tumor to the bone, these of /sup 170/Tm and /sup 169/Yb compounds were smaller than that of /sup 67/ Ga. Twenty-four hours after the intravenous injection of /sub 169/Yb-citrate, the lower body of the rat was scanned by scintillation camera with pinhole- collimater for 30,000 count (992 sec). The scintigram was compared with these by /sup 67/Ga-citrate for 30,000 count (284.8 sec) and by /sup 111/In-citrate for 30,000 count (188.9 sec). /sup 169/Yb was found mainly in the tumors and the bones, and /sup 67/Ga and /sup 111/In in the tumors and the soft tissues. The curve of the residual /sup 169/Yb-citrate in the whole body 16 days after the intravenous injection consisted of a rapid phase and a gradual phase. Biological half-time was 9.6 hrs in the rapid phase and 60 days in the gradual phase. (JA)
