POLARIZATION OF PROTONS FROM B$sup 10$(d,p)B$sup 11$, C$sup 12$(d,p)C$sup 13$, AND SPIN-FLIP STRIPPING

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D

The polarization of proton groups corresponding to the ground and first excited states in the reactions B/sup 10/(d,p)B/sup 11/ and C/sup 12/(d,p)C/sup 13/ have been measured for an incident deuteron energy of 7.8 Mev. With the exception of the first excited state of B/sup 11/, the sign of the polarization for six known cases is consistent with the relation P = ( plus or minus ) when j/ sub n/ = 1/sub n/ plus or minus 1/2, the axis of quantization being defined by n = k/sub p/ x k/sub d/. The anomalous polarization of the first excited state of B/sub 11/ is interpreted as evidence for a spin-flip exchange process in the stripping reaction. (auth)
