THE B$sup 10$(p,n)C$sup 10$ EXCITATION FUNCTION FROM THRESHOLD TO 10.6 Mev

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
The excitation function for total neutron emission from the B/sup 10/ (p,n)C/sup 10/ reaction was measured by an activation technique from threshold to E/sub p/ = 10.6 Mev. The absolute value of the cross section was determined as sigma = 2.0 plus or minus 0.2 mb at E/sub p/ = 8.50 Mev. The excitation function reveals broad levels of C/sup 11/ at 14.08 plus or minus 0.02, 14.78 plus or minus 0.04, 15.36 plus or minus 0.05, and 15.61 plus or minus 0.05 Mev. A sharp rise of cross section at E/sub p/ = 8.55 Mev occurs when transitions to the first excited state of C/sup 10/ become possible. This cross section discontinuity enables the energy of the first excited state of C/sup 10/ to be determined as 3.38 plus or minus 0.03 Mev. (auth)
