Operation plumbbob, report to the test director. Nevada Test Site, May-October 1957. Timing and firing. Sanitized version

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:432722
Edgerton, Germeshausen & Grier, Inc. (EG&G) was responsible for providing timing and firing signals for the thirty shots of Operation Plumbbob at the Nevada Test Site. The timing and firing system included the Control Point at Yucca Pass and four major timing-signal distribution stations, three in Yucca Basin and one in Frenchman Flat. Two additional timing systems in Areas 3 and 12 furnished independent control of firing and monitoring circuits for a number of low-yield detonations. Fourteen timing signals were provided by the basic sequence timer. A new airdrop sequence timer was used on the operation for the first time. The time of detonation for each shot was determined with respect to world time, and light-time characteristics were measured for most of the shots by four Bhangmeters located at the Control Point.
